Clumps of herbaceous perennials can now be divided: make sure that the transplanted divisions have roots and shoots.
You can still plant herbaceous perennials: check that the plants you buy have strong, green shoots.
Care for your evergreens: remove any frost damaged shoots damaged by earlier cold weather.
A general-purpose fertiliser can now be applied to borders and beds: take care not to damage emerging shoots.
In mild areas winter coverings of fleece, straw, polythene etc can be removed now, to prevent new shoots being damaged.
Did you already prune climbing roses? First remove dead, diseased or dying branches, then tie in any new shoots.
